Crow Wing County Housing Market Study
Brainerd/Baxter Housing Partnership - The BBHP is a Brainerd HRA sponsered initiative of stakeholders from the cities of Brainerd and Baxter that are working to develop a housing plan that will provide goals for each community with respect to the development of new housing and the redevelopment of existing housing. The BBHP will also oversee the update of the Crow Wing County Housing Market Study and the completion of a physical housing condition study for both communities. Purchase of Lots and Land - The Brainerd HRA regularly purchases vacant lots, blighted houses, and tracts of land for the purposes of new construction and redevelopment. The Brainerd HRA also passes along information about vacant lots and buildable land to non-profit partners, including Lakes Area Habitat for Humanity, the Region 5 Development Commission, and private developers willing to construct single family, owner occupied houses on the sites. Franklin Junior High Task Force - The Brainerd HRA served on the Franklin Junior High Task Force in 2002 and 2003. The purpose of the Task Force was to determine future uses for the Franklin Junior High Facility and site. The recommendation of the Task Force to the ISD 181 School Board was to work with the firm Art Space Projects to create living and workspace for artists when the school closes in 2005.
Minnesota NAHRO Central Region Meetings - The Brainerd HRA helps coordinate regular meetings of housing and redevelopment authorities in the central region of the state for the Minnesota chapter of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials. Central Minnesota Housing Partnership
ISD 181 Learning Center - The Brainerd HRA redeveloped a former grocery store into a multi-purpose, special use educational facility. Project partners were the Independent School District 181, and the construction managment firm Construction Analysis & Management. Educational programs offered at The Learning Center include Early Childhood and Family Education, Early Childhood Special Education, The Mid-level Alternative Program, and Adult Education classes.
